Since it was first added into the game many have already asked How to Make a Campfire in Minecraft. Campfires have been added in Minecraft since 1.14 which was known as the Village and Pillage update.

It is probably one of the most underrated additions into the game. It makes outdoor travelling even more realistic and it can be used for cooking food and as a light source.

If you have not really dug deep into Minecraft's overall crafting gameplay yet chances are you have not yet created a campfire yet as well. Let us dive in and learn how to make a campfire in Minecraft and how to use them.

What is a Campfire in Minecraft

A campfire is a block that emits light and smoke. The smoke will go up into the sky until it hits a block. Campfires can be used as a source of light, like other light blocks such as glowing obsidian or sea lanterns.

They can also be used to cook food. Any meat item (beef, pork, chicken, mutton) can be cooked by placing it on top of a campfire.

Campfires can be placed on the ground or on top of blocks. When placed on the ground, they will create a 3x3 square of blackened blocks.

Now that you know what it is you would probably want to know how to make a campfire in Minecraft.

But before that do know that when you break a campfire you can get 2 pieces of charcoal. Just like torches and most artificial lighting in Minecraft, they last indefinitely until destroyed.

Making this block is not as difficult as you think it is. At the same time the required ingredients needed are not difficult to obtain at all.

To create a Campfire you will need:

  • Coal or Charcoal
  • 3 Sticks
  • 3 blocks of wood

Learning how to make a campfire in Minecraft is important so you won't be super reliant on guides online.

Once you have all of the necessary ingredients you will then need to open a 3 by 3 crafting window and place the necessary items in it. You may use the in-game crafting guide to help you know how to place them accordingly.

After that you can then move the campfire into your inventory to officially create this block. You can place it anywhere you want however do be warry.

Do note that once you place the campfire you won't get back the item when you break it. Instead you will get up to 2 pieces of charcoal.

Campfire can also be found in villages in taiga and snowy taiga biomes. You can also potentially get campfires from trading.

In Bedrock Edition, apprentice fisherman villagers have a 50% chance of selling a campfire for 5 emeralds.

In Java Edition, apprentice fisherman villagers have a 2⁄3 chance of selling a campfire for two emeralds.

Why Would you Want to Make a Campfire in Minecraft

Campfires produce light at a rate of 15 and soul campfires at 10. When built, campsites come with fireplaces lit by default.

When /gamerule mobgriefing is enabled, camp fires may be started by striking them with or dispensing flint and steel, shooting them with a flaming arrow, or using or dispensing fire charges, blaze fireballs, and ghast fireballs.

Campfires can also be kindled by utilizing an item enchanted with the fire aspect, or stepping on it while burning in Bedrock Edition.

Waterlogging a fire (location of water in the same block space) may put it out. Water, a splash bottle, or a shovel can also be used to extinguish it.

Campfires may also be put out by using a water source or allowing water to flow over the campfire in Bedrock Edition. Campfires, like torches, are not extinguished by rain.

  • You can also create soul campfires by replacing coal/charcoal with soul sand or soul soil
  • Flint and steel on the side of a water-soaked or burning campfire sets the adjacent air block on fire instead
  • When the campfire block is destroyed, any food that was cooking on the fire simply drops
