With GLSL installed, you’ll be able to add supported shader packs into your game. Shader packs add new lighting effects, new details to water, and new details to shading. Shader packs do not change the textures of your game, but they add just as much of a visual impact as texture packs do. In fact, if you combine a new texture pack with a shader pack through GLSL, you can have an entirely different experience in Minecraft.
These packs are also very easy to install. Now that GLSL has integrated with Optifine HD, all you need to do is use the Optifine HD installer, open Minecraft, and you’ll have a new shaderpacks folder in the .minecraft folder. You can then click and drag shader pack .zip files into the shaderpacks folder. From there, you can turn these packs on or off in the new shaders menu in the video settings tab in the options menu. Once you have a shader pack activated, you can also adjust the shader pack settings and control what features are active. For example, you can adjust lighting intensity, sun shafts, water reflections, and much more.
Before you start using shader packs, there’s something you could consider – shader packs can impact your game’s performance quite massively, so if you have a low end PC, your frame rate may suffer massively. If you have a good PC, you should be able to run shader packs without any issues.
You should also consider that these shader packs can work on multiplayer servers. You will only be changing things on the client side of Minecraft, so you can take your favorite shaders wherever you go. Although you must play on Minecraft 1.14.4 servers if you want to use GLSL 1.14.4.
