The Contagion – Minecraft Horror Map Is A Spooky Tale With Depth
The Contagion – Minecraft Horror Map is perfect for anybody that is looking for a horror story with real depth to it. If you care more for the story and adventure than the actual jump scares or quick frights, then you’ll love The Contagion.
Let’s take a closer look at what makes this map so special. We will go over the highlights and our first thoughts on The Contagion and then from there we can explain how you can download it for yourself.
The Contagion – Minecraft Horror Map Review
The Contagion – Minecraft Horror Map starts with you outside of your truck which has been involved in a collision. You must explore the nearby area and discover details about a local infestation that has started to infect people.
With nobody sure how the infection started or why it’s spreading, it is up to you to explore everything by yourself and find out the answers. Along the way, you’ll find all sorts of spooky discoveries.
What’s great about The Contagion is that there are multiple ways to play it. You can simply follow the main objectives, but you can also take your own approach and look for hidden story elements in books or try to find alternative options instead of the standard route. There is so much player freedom that there are actually three different endings – a good ending, a bad ending, and a secret ending.
As you play, you’ll find all sorts of unique items and weapons to use, too. For example, at the start you will find a revolver in your inventory. You also have a helmet you can wear to protect yourself from the infection which is spreading through the town.
There are elements where things can get a little confusing. If you get just a little lost, it can feel like a nightmare trying to find your way to the right area. And whilst some instructions are straight forward, others are very vague.
For example, at one point I was told to investigate the area, which essentially just meant wander around until I found something that would trigger the next part of the dialogue. If I had been given more clues to what I should be looking for, I would have saved some time here. For some, though, the exploration and adventure is what makes Minecraft horror maps fun so maybe that will appeal to you too.
The Contagion Minecraft Horror map also takes quite a while to setup. Whilst it is a vanilla Minecraft map, you still must set up the right version of Minecraft and also install a resource pack. It’s not such a problem if you are used to doing this, but for those that just want a quick map to jump into and play, it isn’t so easy.
Thankfully, once you understand the basic instructions, it’s not hard to install, despite the extra steps. We will take you through all of the steps to install and provide a download link to The Contagion below. Make sure to view our pros and cons list first.

How do I install Minecraft Horror Map
Download the map file and, using a file extractor, export the contents of the file to a location on your computer. When that’s finished, locate the directory where your Minecraft saves are kept. This will be different depending on the operating system of your computer. If you’re not sure where to look, use the table below:
OS | Location |
Windows | %APPDATA%\.minecraft |
macOS | ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft |
Linux | ~/.minecraft |
Just place the Spooner Street folder into your saves folder and just select the save from your Minecraft single player saves list.
The same process applies for multiplayer too, but the location of your saves folder is always different depending on what client or server software you use.
