What is One Block Dungeon – Minecraft Dungeon?

One Block Dungeon – Minecraft Dungeon is a dungeon map that surrounds itself on one Minecraft feature: suffocation prevention, or as most people might call it, crawling. Since this feature was first introduced into the game we’ve had an onslaught of creative Minecraft players making 1 block high creations.

Now comes the One Block Dungeon! Equipped with spooky corridors and damp dungeons towering at only one block high, will you be able to scramble your way through the maze and avoid the tiny enemies that stand in your way?

What’s One Block Dungeon – Minecraft Dungeon like to play?

I had a great time playing through this vertically-challenged map. After years of playing through adventure maps you do get used to the tricks and shortcuts use in their map creation, so a breath of fresh air is always welcome.

And I’m happy to say that One Block Dungeon is just that. This map stole my blocky heart and reminded me of the reasons why we make and play adventure maps. Despite its simplicity I couldn’t help but enjoy every minute in that creepy Minecraft crawl space.

If you’re unaware, through several different means players can exist and move around in one block high spaces that are typically inaccessible during typical Minecraft play. It’s very similar to the swimming animation when moving around underwater, so it’s nothing too unusual.

What this feature is great for however is for the creation of cleverly designed bases, maps and plenty more. Although one block height might sound limiting, this map demonstrates that it’s bizzarelly creatively liberating.

You begin your journey in One Block Dungeon in the confines of a cell. It’s damp and dark, and what’s worse is there’s some human remains cohabitating with you. It’s up to you to escape with only your wits in a maze with such little room that only the creepiest of crawlies hang about in. If you’re familiar with dungeons in Minecraft and other games you’ll feel right at home in this classic dank interior.

We’ve got everything here: cobwebs, mossy stone, cobblestone, what more could you need? The design choices are excellent throughout and I appreciate the dedication to making the dungeon feel genuinely claustrophobic and foreboding.

This is a perfectly pint sized experience for map veterans and noobs alike. With a creative premise and excellent execution, my only complaints are that it wasn’t the most difficult map, and that it wasn’t longer!

How do you install One Block Dungeon – Minecraft Dungeon?

Has our review of this small-yet-mighty map left you craving some one block high dungeon action? Say no more! Read our guide below on how to get the map installed in just a couple of minutes.

Your first job (obviously) is to download the map, which will come as a zip file. Make a new folder somewhere, and using a file extractor such as Winrar, export the contents of the download into it. Rename the folder to something distinct like ‘One Block Dungeon’. In the folder, move the zip file somewhere and save it for later.

Now move your One Block Dungeon folder to your Minecraft saves folder by using one of the directories below:

Once the folder is in your saves, you can simply select the map through your singeplayer saves list. Before starting though, make sure to take the zip file you put aside and place it into your resource pack folder and activate it as your current resource pack. To do this go to options>resource packs>open resource pack and place the zip file inside the folder that opens automatically.
