Bob Ross. We’ve all been there. Binging episodes of ‘The Joy of Painting’ late into the night. And with that said, who wouldn’t want to emulate him in Minecraft? If you’re looking to look like the afro-donned artist in Minecraft, keep on reading.

What is the Minecraft Bob Ross skin?

Bob Ross’ programs are like an instant relaxer. It’s an incredibly wholesome experience watching the gentle painter whisper about his no-mistake attitude and welcoming point of view. He’s an inspiring figure, so it’s no surprise that someone has been inspired to make a custom Bob Ross skin for Minecraft.

So let’s have a quick review. I’ll try to keep things positive, after all “We don’t make mistakes, just happy little accidents”.

The art style of this skin is slick and very familiar within the Minecraft aesthetic. I’m always more fond of skins that copy the style of the default Minecraft skins and this one does it while managing to inject a bit more artistic flair.

The colour pallete takes a lot of inspiration from other popular skins and has that high quality Minecraft skin look you’ve come to expect from the more admired skin creators. The shading is effective, but not too in your face. It adds just enough detail to make an overall more interesting skin, but doesn’t become busy visually.

Bob Ross’ outfit and overall look is certainly represented in the skin too. You can really see how the creator took the time to match some photo references. The biggest downside however is that Minecraft doesn’t support larger hat/hair models for skins, so getting Ross’ distinct afro isn’t really possible.

I don’t blame the creator as they obviously tried, but it is still a shame. Another minor nitpick is that the facial features being in such a small resolution means the finer details and likeness of Bob Ross can’t be represented. Initially, I found myself thinking the skin looked somewhat like Chuck Norris because of this. Clearly this wasn’t far off, but it’s definitely something to make note of!

How do I change my Minecraft skin to Bob Ross?

If you’re playing the Java version of Minecraft, you’ll need to access you account via Minecraft.net if you want to change your skin. To upload a new skin, log into minecraft.net/profile and locate the ‘skin’ header to access the skin section of the site. From here you can simply upload the Bob Ross skin at the bottom end of the page.

If Windows 10 is more of you scene, you can just change your skin from within the game. When viewing the Minecraft main menu, select the little coat hanger icon that’s underneath your current Minecraft skin. From here you can simply upload the downloaded skin file and presto!
